The project is the Mausoleum (Dargah in Bengali) in Hijuli, Manikgong for Sufi Pir of Uwaisi Tariqa, and Who was devotedly involved in spreading Islamic knowledge and practice in the locality. The project aims to reminisce the memory of the โPir" and develop an institution for exercising Islamic Knowledge for the betterment of the community. Sufism was popular in Bengal since the eleventh Century due to the continued arrival of Sufis and their involvement in religious, and humanitarian activities. The formation of the Mausoleum, its scale, and its materiality are highly inspired by the Sultani periodโs (1342 - 1576 AD) mosques.
The notion was to connect the souls with the higher power through the โChandelier of Paradiseโ. The outer shell replicates our reality but the inner space moves the reality beyond it. Metaphorically, Dargha (Mausoleum) is the home where the earthly body rests and the soul travels to paradise for closer to the Higher Power. The importance of the project emerges from the necessities of such structures where the community can evolve by sharing the knowledge of Sufism remove religious radicalism and represent a harmonious inclusive community. The Implication results in an intimate scale of 36โx36โ square plan to accommodate existing graves to preserve the essence of the Pirโ for his followers. This project's significance lies in addressing the need for communal spaces that promote a shared understanding of the community and foster unity.
